The Franklin Method

teaches you the know-how to make the most out of your body/mind continuum in a practical, hands on manner. We address the mind through the use of imagery in all its applications and we address the body by teaching you how it is designed to function. There are three things you always do as a human;


  • You relate to gravity in posture and movement 
  • You breathe 
  • You use your brain to think and imagine

So surely it makes sense to be good at something you do all the time?  What`s the alternative?  Poor posture leads to worse posture; incorrect use of the tendons to lead to dysfunction, pain and injury. Do you know how you are actually designed to function?

  • How the bones/muscles/organs work together to function efficiently? 
  • How the mind is always part of the process? 
  • Are you aware of how you are using your body when you exercise?

The Franklin Method teaches the practical element of body design, emphasising imagery for maximum efficiency. It demonstrates what innumerable studies have shown, that the mind affects the body.  Neurological studies tell us that the brain remodels itself throughout life and that it retains its capacity to change itself based on the way we behave and think. In this method you work directly with the nervous system which has been scientifically proven to be the fastest way to change the way we use our body. Your mind controls everything you do, including setting your movement patterns which eventually become spontaneous. These inefficient patterns can be the cause of your pain. You can change these patterns by changing your thoughts and remember – YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO CHANGE.

Liz uses her knowledge and understanding of The Franklin Method by teaching you to understand your own anatomy by allowing patients to identify points of movement, location of joints through personal touch.  Patients learn how to feel the way their bones and joints are moving naturally in relation to each other and are given the tools to take away and use in everyday life.  If you understand the relationship between all the bones and joints it will greatly improve your posture, flexibility and strength.

Liz Jowsey is the only qualified Franklin teacher in South Yorkshire and is one of under 20 currently in the UK.  Her background as an experienced , practicing  physiotherapist means that her knowledge and experience of human anatomy and physiology is second to none. She is also an experienced pilates teacher and Hallam Pilates (founded in 2002) runs over 14 classes a week.
